'first light'

dawn

unfurls

like an aging whisky.

The delicate moment when darkness begins to soften, as if the night itself is slowly being unraveled. The world, still wrapped in the cool silence of dawn, seems to pause, waiting for the sun's full rise.

Shadows linger longer, fading as the light gently brightens, revealing the contours of the landscape. There is no rush, no sudden burst of brilliance—just the slow, steady arrival of daylight, unhurried and patient…

Chapter One

'First light'

Benriach Distillery

Nestled in the heart of Scotland’s Speyside, Benriach distillery is a place where tradition and artistry intertwine. Surrounded by rolling hills and ancient woodlands, its stone walls stand as a testament to centuries of craftsmanship. The air is thick with the scent of malted barley and smoky peat, a fragrance that carries the soul of the land. Inside, copper stills gleam softly, reflecting the amber hues of whisky aging in oak casks. It’s a place where time flows gently, allowing each drop to mature into something exceptional, with every cask telling its own story of patience, passion, and place.

bottling 'first light'
Arriving gradually—quietly, patiently—revealing depth and complexity. The early morning glow unfurls slowly, much like the nuanced flavors in a well-aged whisky, each moment contributing to a richer experience. Just as whisky draws from the wood, absorbing its character and warmth with each passing year, first light draws from the dark of night, absorbing the promise of the day, unfolding layer by layer. Both processes evoke a sense of anticipation, of something slowly coming into being—refined, mellowed, and more profound for the time it took to get there.
Tasting Notes
NOSE

Meadow flowers and lily pollen blend with light honey and milk chocolate. Notes of peach skin and hazelnut appear, with a hint of golden syrup, white tea, and pepper in the background.

Palate

Caramelised apples and sweet pastry, touched with cinnamon and liquorice, bring a rich, spicy bite. Ginger, white chocolate, oak, and maple syrup add sweetness and warmth.

Finish

Deep and fruity, the whisky balances sweetness and spice. A long, satisfying finish leaves rich, lingering layers on the palate.
